God is Love

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." (1 John 4:7-8)

A lot of people, even some Christians, view God as some stern dictator, ready to judge and condemn anyone who dares disobey Him. Some even judge and condemn others and feel like they're doing God's work.

But if God is love and the only way to know God is through love, that changes everything. We are made in the image of love. When we ask Christ into our hearts, we are being filled with the Spirit of love. When we are called by Christ to love everyone, even those who harm us, we can do that only because we are filled with supernatural love.

Think about how powerful this for a moment. Do you live this out in your life? If not, then it's you and not God. So open yourself to God's unconditional love so that you will be filled with love so abundant that you won't be able to stop yourself from loving everyone, no matter how they treat you. That powerfully transformative love will then touch their hearts and change them too, opening them to love. It may sound impossible, but nothing is impossible with God, so nothing is impossible with God's love.

No love, no God. Know love, know God.

"And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." (1 John 4:16)

"We love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:19)
